What are the benefits of deck staining?

Homeowners stain their decks to protect them from moisture. The Midwest’s tough weather can damage property easily, from hail, snow, or rain. Deck staining can prevent the wood from cracking and causing splinters when one finally gets to enjoy the summer heat outside on the deck. Overall, deck staining increases the life of your deck and makes it look pretty!

How long does a deck stain last?

While staining your deck does increase its lifetime, it’s not forever. However, you should be good for about 2-5 years, depending on the installation, wood type, and climate.

How long does deck stain take to dry?

Most deck stains will be dry within 3-15 hours, depending on the weather on the day of application. It is best to avoid touch for up to 48 hours to be safe. Our team will work with you to find a period of time that includes no rain or snow in your area.

When should I stain a deck?

Decks should only be stained when dry and properly cleaned. Before staining we will pressure wash the deck to get rid of any dirt. Midwesterners have the great opportunity of staining their deck on a warm spring or summer day. If you’re lucky, there might be a chance in early fall!

Can deck stain freeze?

As many deck stains are water-based, it is possible for them to be free. The Midwest’s freezing temperatures in the winter can contribute to this. Your stain should be kept in a warm indoor spot during the winter to avoid the formula from clumping. Eco Wash works with water-based formulas, but will use oil-based deck stain upon request.
